The Culture Guides European Handbook has been published and is free to download here.
Its aim is to investigate the possibility of a European framework to recruit, train and manage volunteers to act as mentors or guides to introduce and help marginalised social groups to participate in local art and culture activities, either as audience members or as active participants.
Is this something that your town or city could benefit from? Are you interested in learning more about bringing together and administering partnership projects, and recruiting volunteers able to introduce hard-to-reach audiences to your culture and heritage offer?
The handbook, produced by Voluntary Arts, aims to provide a summary of best practice developed from pilot Culture Guide projects in each of the five participating nations, and guidance for other organisations to develop similar programmes around Europe.
Culture Guides is a two year project that started in October 2013, run under the Grundtvig strand of the European Commission Lifelong Learning Programme, and involving six partners in five nations. Voluntary Arts are keen to replicate the project across England, and eager to form partnerships with museums, galleries and libraries to do this.
