A Centenary Celebration by Peter Liversidge at the Royal College of Nursing

Peter Liversidges’ event was part banquet, part installation as he took over the main hall at the RCN headquarters to celebrate nurses and nursing.

Peter, whose family have connections with nursing, led workshops in the weeks leading up to the event probing into the thoughts and feeling of nurses and delving into the RCN’s archive and library. RCN member volunteers and young artist helpers helped to make Peter’s trademark cardboard and black paint placards adorned with phrases culled from the inquiries. These artworks covered the walls and stage of the hall as 100 guests were treated to a dinner featuring some of Peter’s family recipes.

Between starters and mains lights were lowered, a six-person choir scattered around the room stood-up together to sing acapella songs written by Peter to mark the occasion. Tears of joy and pride were shed, raffle prizes and etched numbered glasses clutched and placards wielded down Oxford Street into the early hours.
