We’re delighted that 6 top contemporary artists have joined the Connect! competition for 2015: your museum, gallery or heritage site could win one of them to come and lead a participatory Museums at Night event at your venue during the October festival.
Who are the Connect! 2015 artists?
The artists this year are Alinah Azadeh, Luke Jerram, Pure Evil, Yinka Shonibare MBE, Gillian Wearing and Davy & Kristin McGuire. Find out more about their work, and their ideas for Connect! events here.
How does the Connect! competition work?
Any cultural or heritage venue in the UK can enter. You decide which artist your organisation would like to win, and complete the Event Submission Form to tell us what sort of Museums at Night event you’d hold with them. Each artist picks 5 venues with interesting ideas to go through to a public vote, which will be open from May 1 – 16.
The public vote offer a great audience development outreach opportunity to communicate with your local community and media, inviting them to cast online votes to bring your chosen artist to your town. In 2014, over 62,000 members of the public voted to win an artist for their town or city.
All participating venues will receive a bursary to support their Museums at Night October event, enabling ambitious and creative event programming. Winning venues will need to provide match funding of £830, which can be in kind: in previous years, most organisations did this with staff and volunteer time alone.

What’s the big idea?
Following on from three successful years of the Connect10 competition, Culture24 has listened to feedback from venues who want more time to develop and submit their event ideas, and venues and artists who would prefer more time to collaborate on their events. Nick Stockman, Culture24 Campaigns Manager, said:
‘This year Connect! is more exciting than ever with voting taking place during the May festival and the events in October. The event prize money has also gone up to £3,000 so we are expecting more venue applications than ever before.’
Connect! is funded by Arts Council England to support venues to try something different to attract new audiences to their Museums at Night event. John Orna-Ornstein, Director of Museums at Arts Council England said:
‘I’m looking forward to seeing what the artists involved in Connect! 2015 have in store for us: we had incredible feedback following last year’s unique artist-led events.’
